Adam Barkman Bio

Professor of Philosophy

Adam Barkman is Professor of Philosophy at Redeemer University College and the co-editor of Lexington’s book series ‘Critical Companions to Contemporary Directors.’ He is the author of five books, most recently Making Sense of Islamic Art and Architecture (Thames & Hudson, 2015), and the co-editor of six books, including The Philosophy of Ang Lee (University Press of Kentucky, 2013), The Culture and Philosophy of Ridley Scott (Lexington, 2013), A Critical Companion to Tim Burton (2016), A Critical Companion to James Cameron (Lexington, 2018) and A Critical Companion to Steven Spielberg (Lexington, 2019). In addition to his work on philosophy in film and aesthetics, Barkman has written widely on popular culture, philosophy in world religions, and the philosophy of C. S. Lewis. Barkman has given talks on four continents and has explored fifty-six countries, but lives a fairly sedentary life in Brantford, Ontario with his wife, Ashley, and their six children.
